I am happy with this toy and my kitties are as well.
At first, my kitties were wary of it. They smelled of it a lot but did not play on it. My kitty who loves to scratch just scratched it at first. So I had to push the balls around for her to see what it does. After that, it was on!
One of my rescue kitties seemed to like it which was odd since she doesn't play often since she is fighting some health conditions, so I think this means even older cats or those who don't play with many other toys would like it. (She is around 10.)
The only reason I could not give it five stars is that the bottom is slick; when we had it on the hard floor like in the picture it would slide when they jumped on it and that would scare them. That made me sad. I had to move it to the carpet as a result, which isn't where I wanted to put it.
Another thing is a similar toy that I had had little "teeth" around the edges of where the scratcher goes to hold it in place, and this one does not have it - so far the scratcher has not come out, but I do have to wonder if that might be an issue at some point.
This toy is quite large, so you will need a decent bit of space to have it accessible and room for the kitties to run and jump around it so they can use it properly. That was a good thing for me because my kitties are quite large and there is plenty of room for them to sit or lay on it and stretch out to scratch.
If they could make this with a non-slip bottom I would give it five stars without hesitation.
